How to get started building on Polygon PoS using Alchemy

Erigon client deprecation on Polygon PoS

Polygon Labs is sunsetting the Erigon client on Polygon PoS. Alchemy is migrating Polygon Mainnet and Amoy infrastructure from Erigon to Bor on August 1, 2026. After this date, the entire erigon_* namespace along with trace_filter, trace_get, and trace_rawTransaction will no longer be available on Polygon Mainnet (polygon-mainnet) or Polygon Amoy (polygon-amoy). The remaining trace_* methods will continue to be available, served by Bor. See the Polygon PoS Erigon Client Deprecation Notice for the full migration guide.

Let's use the viem package to create an Ethereum client connected to Alchemy and fetch the latest block number!

npm install --save viem

Now that you've created a client connected to Alchemy, you can continue with some basics:

console.log("Balance (ETH):", Number(balance) / 1e18);
